In the fast-moving streets of Hyderabad, where delivery riders race against time, one young man is fighting a very different battle inside the boxing ring. Vamsi Krishna, who works as a delivery partner, is steadily carving a name for himself in boxing at both national and international levels.
Originally from Upper Mandapalle village in Rajampet mandal of Andhra Pradesh’s Annamayya district, Vamsi’s journey has been anything but easy. Losing his father at a young age meant that the responsibility of supporting his mother and three elder sisters fell on his shoulders early in life. Yet, even with these challenges, he held on tightly to his dream of becoming a champion boxer.
A Life Tested by Loss
In 2021, tragedy struck again. The devastating Annamayya floods wiped out his home completely. Along with it, Vamsi lost all his medals, certificates, and memories everything he had worked so hard to earn.
For many, such a loss would have been the end of the road. But not for Vamsi.
At his lowest point, his long-time coach Anand Achari stood firmly by his side. Having recognized Vamsi’s talent when he was just seven years old, Coach Anand took it upon himself to support the young fighter—providing training, equipment, and most importantly, belief when it mattered the most.
Building a Champion
Vamsi’s journey in combat sports began with Thai boxing and karate, where he quickly started making his mark. His first big breakthrough came in 2019, when he won a gold medal at a boxing tournament in Kurnool.
That victory opened doors to bigger achievements. He went on to secure gold medals at the National Thai Boxing Championship in Gujarat and an international Thai boxing event in Goa.
Balancing long work hours with companies like Zomato, Swiggy, and Rapido, Vamsi continued to train relentlessly. His discipline paid off again when he clinched gold at a traditional boxing tournament in Nepal in August last year.
Today, his achievements include:
- 5 certifications in Thai boxing
- 12 medals in karate
- 20+ medals across state, national, and international boxing events
More Than Just Medals
For Vamsi, success is not just about winning titles—it’s about proving that circumstances don’t define destiny.
He strongly believes that financial struggles should never stop anyone from chasing their dreams. At the same time, he highlights the need for better government support and sponsorship for talented athletes from underprivileged backgrounds.
According to him, with the right encouragement, India has the potential to shine even brighter on the global stage including the Olympics.
He also has a message for young people: spend less time scrolling on social media and more time building something meaningful—whether it’s in sports, fitness, or skills. Discipline, he says, can completely transform a person’s life.
Recognition and Support
Vamsi’s determination hasn’t gone unnoticed. His journey recently caught the attention of Pawan Kalyan and Arava Sridhar, who extended financial assistance to families affected by the floods, including his.
At home, his biggest supporter remains his mother, Lakshmi Devi. Despite ongoing financial struggles, she takes immense pride in her son’s perseverance and hopes his journey will inspire other rural youth.
Coach Anand Achari, who has trained him for over seven years, sums it up best:
“He never gave up, not even once. I always knew he was special. Today, he represents determination for our entire district.”
