TVS Apache RTX - The New Adventure Tourer from TVS

The TVS Motor Company has expanded its popular Apache lineup with the all-new Apache RTX, marking its entry into the growing adventure-touring segment. Designed to balance everyday usability with touring comfort and light off-road capability, the RTX aims to be a practical all-rounder for modern riders.

At its core, the bike is powered by a 299.1 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder DOHC engine, producing around 35.5 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 28.5 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. Pricing starts at approximately ₹1.99 lakh (ex-showroom), going up to about ₹2.29 lakh for higher variants.

Built for Versatility

The Apache RTX is designed for riders who want one motorcycle that can do it all—daily commuting, highway touring, and occasional off-road exploration.

It features:

  • Multiple ride modes such as Urban, Rain, Tour, and Rally, allowing riders to adapt performance based on conditions
  • Premium hardware including USD front forks, a rear monoshock, and a steel trellis frame
  • A 19-inch front wheel, which improves stability on rough terrain while maintaining road comfort

On the technology side, the bike includes a 5-inch TFT display, smartphone connectivity, navigation support, and even cruise control on select variants—features usually seen in higher-priced motorcycles.

Performance & Riding Experience

The RTX strikes a balance between power and practicality. Its engine output makes it suitable for:

  • Comfortable highway cruising
  • Smooth city riding
  • Light off-road trails

The suspension setup and chassis contribute to a stable and confident ride, especially for riders stepping into the adventure category for the first time.

Strengths and Considerations

What stands out:

  • Strong value for money considering the features offered
  • Good ride quality and handling for its segment
  • Versatility across different riding conditions

Things to keep in mind:

  • The seat height may feel tall for shorter riders
  • While capable off-road, it’s not built for extreme terrain like hardcore ADV bikes with larger front wheels (e.g., 21-inch setups)
  • A fuel tank capacity of around 12.5 litres may require planning for long-distance touring

How It Compares

In the mid-capacity adventure segment, the RTX goes up against models like:

  • KTM 250 Adventure
  • Suzuki V-Strom SX

Compared to its rivals, the RTX stands out for its feature-rich package and competitive pricing, making it an attractive option for riders who value technology and overall usability.

Who Is It For?

The Apache RTX is a great choice if you:

  • Want a budget-friendly adventure tourer around the ₹2 lakh range
  • Need a bike that can handle daily rides and weekend getaways
  • Prefer modern features like ride modes, TFT display, and connectivity
  • Are comfortable with the taller stance typical of adventure motorcycles
